Principal's Message

Realizing that there is a lot of change facing us next year, I am trying to plan ahead as much as possible so that I can provide families with accurate information. My biggest challenge at the end of each year is trying to accurately predict student numbers and create class configurations for the next fall. Typically, Larrabee has several multi-age classrooms and that will be the case again in 2008-09. There is considerable research showing the benefits of multi-age classes and sometimes the need for this configuration comes down to simple numbers. For example, if we have 24 first graders and 16 second graders it makes sense to have two multi-age classes of 20 each. A change of as little as three to five students can result in class configurations being altered at the last minute or the need for an additional teacher. Therefore, if you know of any families who live within Larrabee’s boundaries and intend to come to Larrabee next year it would be very helpful if you have them contact us as soon as possible. When families wait until August to notify us about enrollment, it can have an impact on all children. Currently, our overall numbers indicate that we may need a tenth teacher for next year. If you have any questions about how we determine class placement or determine staffing, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank You Garden Volunteers!

Special thanks to Dean Bumstead (kinder Devon’s dad) who owns Deans Tree Service for the wood chips he donated to the new Larrabee native plant garden. Also, kudos to Teresa Hamilton, parent volunteer, for her expertise and hard work prepping and weeding the garden. Because of Teresa, the garden is looking fabulous and alive!
